Ok…I feel like I’ve been mentioning movies on here far too much lately, but I just had to mention this one!
Scott Pilgrim vs The World is based off the six Scott Pilgrim graphic novels. The novels are wicked, and as much as I wanted to get excited about this movie I tried to restrain myself because last time (with The Last Airbender) my high expectations were shattered pretty hard. Edgar Wright however did this series justice and then some. With a slick blend of graphic novel and cinema this movie was so fun and absolutely blew my mind. I saw it opening night and I would happily go see it again (which as anyone who knows me would know, is not something I say often at all). Sooooo do yourself a favor and go have some fun at the theater with this one! It’s the funnest movie you’ll see all summer.
Also a highlight was during the previews a preview came on for this elevator horror film. It look terrible and everyone in the theater was thinking it when “Directed by M. Night Shyamalan” popped up on the screen near the end and the whole theater burst into laughter and someone towards the back yelled “Oh that looks good!” :P. He’s certainly developed a bit of a reputation for himself…
The guys over at fstoppers.com challenge themselves by doing a fashion shoot with an iPhone as the camera. Pretty cool - and it definitely proves how important light is!
HBO is bringing George RR Martin’s ‘Game of Thrones’ story to the film world. His “A Song of Ice and Fire” series is, hands down, my favourite book series ever (and that’s saying a lot ‘cause I read a lot of fantasy!). I must admit that I was skeptical that this could be done well, but if anyone can do it’s HBO. They just released the first teaser…and, well, I’m teased.
So my webhosting just came up for renewal so I decided to look around the net for a new webhost. On a suggestion from a friend I checked out dreamhost. Lo and behold, when their homepage loaded I saw a big “Celebrating 11 Years!” header. Ok…I read on and see that they’re giving unlimited hosting space and bandwidth to a limited number of people who sign up today!!! Talk about a lucky find. When I got to the site there was an update announcing that less then 30 more of this special offer was available. So I quickly click through and get to the check out with a one year commitment for about 120 bucks. Not bad…but I saw that there was an option for a promo code. I googled around and found a promo code that takes 50 bucks off my order (it was MACUHA50). Score! I’m pretty happy for what I got with 70 bucks and if I keep renewing, I still get my unlimited resources! I think this is the start of a beautiful relationship…
The gala opening was a good time! I think the pictures will be up until January sometime, so if you haven’t made it down you should check it out! (it’s the gallery attached to Photo Central on Notre Dame)
Mark my words, this is going to be the next big thing. Soon we won’t have to ever consciously charge our cell phones, pda, laptops, etc…wireless power sources will simplify it for us!
Intel has successfully demoed a setup that transfers 60 watts over 2 feet with 75% efficiency! It won’t be long now…
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking, and don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.“
